I've always loved thrift shopping. I enjoy methodically and patiently combing through the masses of objects with curiosity to find meaningful pieces for my home. I love the thrill of the hunt.
Since moving to Mississippi from New York, I’ve sourced a few thrift shops I enjoy perusing regularly. Finding shops in the city can be difficult, so it’s a welcomed change to have options in the South. It’s during one of my recent visits I realized others may have the desire to incorporate Found + Vintage pieces into their own homes but may not have the resources to do so. I recognized an opportunity to source and share a collection of special findings with those who have the want and desire to obtain them.
Curating a special collection of Found + Vintage pieces for 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 home is an honor. My goal is to offer one-of-a kind pieces that will make your heart jump with joy.
Get ready to add a little soul to your home.
My primary goal is to source pieces that are timeless. This means selecting items that may be 20 years or older, but their style is still relevant today. Timeless pieces look like they could fit in during any decade or could be a part of any era.
I do this by considering a product’s material, use, and condition.
Pieces crafted from classic materials such as glass, wood, marble, and ceramic tend to make an item timeless. Throughout time, these classic materials have never gone out of style and will always be relevant in interior decor and design.
Product use is the second consideration for my selection. Home goods with purpose and longevity always top my list. Candlestick holders, kitchen and dining pieces, and vases are all pieces that have a definitive purpose and are in style regardless of the decade.
When I reference product use, I consider two categories:
Product condition is the last criteria I consider when choosing a Vintage or Found piece. I tend to select pieces that are still functional and are in usable condition but show some marks of the life they’ve lived before. Marks of “imperfection” and use make each piece unique and special.
Of course, there are some exceptions to my rules above. Sometimes I choose a piece that may no longer be able to serve its literal function, but I can repurpose as something else that creates value. Other times, if a piece just feels meaningful, I use my heart as my guide.
Found + Vintage pieces have soul. They’ve been gently used, loved, and appreciated during a previous life. With each item, I tend to find myself wondering about the person who previously chose it, how it was formerly used, and the memories that may have been made during its use. I like to think that we will be a part of its story, just as it will be a part of ours.
In a world currently dominated with “fast homeware,” there is temptation to fill our homes with products that are all new and trendy. Don’t get me wrong, trends are not all bad if they truly resonate with you. I have certainly integrated a few into my home myself! But I firmly believe it’s time we start to go back to our roots by selecting decor and homeware pieces that have meaning, purpose, and longevity. Pieces that have lasting impact. Even if you prefer trendy decor, adding just a few vintage pieces can make a room feel layered and collected. Found + Vintage pieces help a home feel grounded.
